How do I keep my windows, doors and conservatories looking as good as new?
Glass and glazing
Any proprietary brand of window cleaner can be used.
Cleaning the external face can be achieved by using warm soapy water and a squeegee or a soft cloth. In some instances it may be necessary to use a mild detergent or a specific window cleaner.
To avoid scratching the glass it is recommended that rings etc are removed prior to cleaning and avoid using any form of abrasive cleaner that could damage the surface of the glass.
Window frames
Wash frames with a mild soap and warm water solution on a regular basis to remove any grime and atmospheric deposits.
If required, clean with a non-abrasive cleaner suitable for plastics .If necessary, use a stronger non-abrasive cleaner such as a cream to remove stubborn marks.
DO NOT CLEAN FRAMES WITH A SOLVENT BASED OR ABRASIVE CLEANER.
Roofs
Polycarbonate roofing panels should be cleaned in a similar manner to window frames, washing roof panels with a mild soap and water solution, every four months or so, to remove grime and atmospheric debris .Long handled or telescopic soft washing brushes can be used to allow for easy cleaning of your conservatory roof.
DO NOT WALK ON YOUR CONSERVATORY ROOF WITHOUT THE USE OF CRAWLER BOARDS
DO NOT USE SOLVENT OR ABRASIVE CLEANERS
AVOID LEANING LADDERS ETC DIRECTLY AGAINST PLASTIC GUTTERS ETC.
Handles, letterboxes etc
Do not use metal cleaners, polish or any abrasive cleaners on lacquered brass surfaces, these will dull the finish and wear the protective coating. Clean only with a damp cloth or if necessary a mild detergent.
Locks, hinges, handles and other mechanical components
These will require nothing more than the occasional spray with a light oil such as WD40.
